TETLEY WALNUT OPEN BOWLING TOURNAMENT

The Walnut holds a lot of fond memories for bowlers. Not too be forgotten was the ‘Tetley Walnut’ Bowling Tournament, at one time with a total prize money of £6,500, it was the ‘Elite’ tournament of the North West, next of course to the ‘Waterloo’

Below is a copy of the past finalist of the much loved tournament

1993 A. Hill (Wirral)                G. Cookson (Winsford)

                                1994  I. Rigby (Tarleton)       R. Hickey (Alt'ham)

1994 was the last year of the tournament, sadly after that due to lack of sponsorship the tournament folded

ELAINE MILLIGAN

Elaine started her playing careeer at the Walnut Tree at about the age of 8 or 9 encouraged by her dad, Len and played for the Walnut Tree Bowling Club for many years until she moved over to the Wirral and started a family. Elaine then made a successful comeback and continues to be a very succesfull bowler and a busy mum at the same time. Her dad Len and Uncle Dave still play for the Walnut Tree BC.
